COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP TO ATTEND THE ONE YOUNG WORLD CONFERENCE
One Young World is delighted to offer this scholarship in partnership with the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust to connect young leaders driving positive social impact in the Commonwealth with the opportunity to attend One Young World conference in 2019. The Scholarship, in particular, seeks to support young leaders who are active in one of the following areas:

  • Achieving change through sport
  • Preserving and protecting the environment
  • Creating healthier communities
  • Increasing access to quality education

You are eligible for sponsorship if you:
  1. Are between the ages of 18 - 30
  2. Have an evidenced commitment to delivering positive change in at least one of the following areas:
  • Sport
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Education
  • Demonstrate capacity for leadership
  • Are addressing key local and/or global issues in your work
  • Have a track record of generating impactful and innovative ideas
  • Are a national (passport holding citizen) of one of the countries listed.

YALI RLC WEST AFRICA EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAMME
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by the United States government as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. They offer you an online training program in the following courses:
  • Business and Entrepreneurship
  • Civil Society leadership
  • Public sector management
Deadline to the application is 19 April 2019.

The Competition for the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa is merit-based and open to young West African leaders who meet the following criteria:
  1. Are 18 to 35 years of age at the time of application submission,
  2. Are citizens and residents of one of the following countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Burkina Faso.
  3. Are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
  4. Are eligible to receive any necessary visa to Ghana, and
  5. Are proficient in reading, writing, listening and speaking English.

CALL FOR APPLICATION
The ALC is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Peace and Security Fellowship for African Women for 2019/2020. This Fellowship is an intellectual and financial award to those who are able to portray convincing demonstrable or potential capacity to bring about intellectual, policy or other change in their field. The Fellowship is a postgraduate non-degree programme and does not lead to an academic qualification. This is a one-year Fellowship, divided into two six-month phases. The deadline for application is 30th April 2019.

The ALC aims to build a new community of leaders generating cutting edge knowledge on peace, security and development. To this end, the ALC undertakes to do the following:

· Create an enabling environment for ideas that are grounded in African realities;

· Provide space for interaction with role models;

· Build capacity for independent thinking;

· Expand the knowledge base to develop transformational ideas that can be nurtured to create visions of change;

· Create opportunities to transfer knowledge to achieve multiplier effects for communities;

· Connect with processes nationally, regionally and globally, especially in the field of peace and security;

· Build lasting partnerships that will maintain an African-led vision of change.

Eligibility

· Candidates must be female citizens of African countries.

· Successful candidates must hold valid travel documents prior to acceptance.

· Candidates must have knowledge of, or experience of women’s rights, gender and development issues.

· Candidates must be able to demonstrate a commitment to contribute to work on peace and security in Africa.

· Candidates must be able to demonstrate capacity to undertake research on issues relating to peace and security in Africa.

· Candidates must demonstrate commitment to the core values of the programme: Independent thinking; Integrity; Pursuit of Excellence and Respect for diversity in all its forms.

· Candidates must have a relevant institutional base and be endorsed by an organization with which they have been involved for at least two years. Exceptional candidates without such organizational ties may be given special consideration.
· Candidates must have a demonstrable plan for how to utilize knowledge gained in the Fellowship upon return to their countries and/ or organizations.
· Candidates must hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with an equivalent level of professional experience.
· Candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English.

The following documents are required, before your application will be considered complete:
· A letter of application detailing your relevant experience and qualifications.
· A supporting statement no longer than 1,000 words, detailing why you think that this programme is important and future plans for engagement with peace and security issues.
· 2 letters of recommendation (To be received directly from the Referees by the deadline of 23:59 hrs, 30 April 2019. Applicants will provide names and contacts of referees; referees will then receive email notification asking them to submit the reference).
· Recent curriculum vitae.
· One writing sample of previous work (maximum 2000 words - example can include original research paper, extracts from dissertation, essay paper, policy paper relevant to peace and security etc).
· One research proposal of no more than 1000 words on a topic dealing with any one of the following 3 sets of questions: o What role does gender play in the peace, security, and development challenges in Africa?

o How does gender affect the contested relationships between citizens and the state in Africa? What are the implications for African governance?

o How are international normative frameworks, in particular UNSCR 1325 and other related resolutions, influencing regional peace and security mechanisms in Africa?

o What leadership issues confront a next generation of policy makers and practitioners, seeking more inclusive and participatory solutions to some of the peace, security and development dilemmas in Africa?
